I am excited and thankful each day that I am the principal at Woodlawn Preparatory School. As a young adult in St. Louis, Missouri I knew that being an educator was the calling I wanted to pursue.I took on leadership roles in children’s and youth ministries at various churches in the area. With a desire to pursue graduate studies, begin a professional career in education, and be near family, my wife and I moved to Mississippi.
My teaching career in public education began in the Yazoo County School District as a first year teacher learning the ropes of classroom management and curriculum. After four successful years, I was lead to the Montessori Method of teaching. When the opportunity arose for me to be trained and hired as a Montessori teacher in the Jackson Public School District, I left the rural setting for an urban one and began my discovery of a more student-centered method for engaging children in learning.I taught for five more years as my role took on the characteristics of a teaching coach and mentor. In order to continue pursuing my goals as an educational leader, I operated in the position of building-level administrator for several years with an effort on expanding and improving the implementation of Montessori programs.
I was enthusiastic to hear of Woodlawn Church’s collaboration with the community in an effort to implement a Montessori school with a Christian worldview. After prayerful consideration, my wife, two boys, and I knew that a greater purpose could be served by moving to this area in order to bring a Montessori learning environment to Columbia, MS.I look forward to serving you and your children in a continuing partnership with this community.
